Inventory Optimization Solutions (IOS) is pleased to announce that One Medical has received the Q1 2019 Best Practice Award. One Medical has demonstrated exceptional capabilities in streamlining purchasing and inventory management processes on a national scale, successfully leveraging the Envi® Supply Chain Solution to support cost-effective, high quality patient care throughout the rapidly growing system. IOS continually identifies and shares best practices from customers to help educate the healthcare community on supply chain automation. Each quarter, IOS recognizes an organization demonstrating supply chain excellence.
One Medical is a membership-based practice focused on making quality care more accessible and enjoyable for all. As the largest independent primary care practice in America, One Medical has grown to include 72 offices in major cities across the country. The organization is driven by a shared mission to transform healthcare by designing it around people’s real lives.
As a technology-forward organization, One Medical is committed to using best practice based processes, software and solutions to advance the business, from seamlessly connecting patients with providers, to streamlining and supporting the infrastructure of their entire enterprise. “We knew supply chain was a strategic lever to achieving our overall goals,” said Laura Arthur, National Supply Chain Manager, One Medical. “We’ve experienced rapid growth, and needed a system that could scale with us and support consistent processes on a national level.”
“Several years ago we selected the Envi supply chain solution from IOS,” said Arthur. “At the beginning, we focused internally to map and identify areas where we could streamline existing processes. We worked together with IOS team on implementation, and launched with an initial pilot in San Francisco, then rolled out nationally. Today, our ongoing commitment to continuous process improvement means when we bring a new facility on board, they’ve got systems in place ready to deliver care.”
“We’ve made significant process improvements using Envi,” said Arthur. “We’ve reduced the amount of stagnant stock and increased product turnover, reducing product expiration rates. We’ve had a 10% reduction across all offices in on-hand supply costs. We’re using space better and reduced the number of products in each office, which saves time for local teams. Overall, we’re making better financial and purchasing decisions. We’re seeing labor savings throughout and especially in AP, by reducing manual activities.”
The team has successfully leveraged Envi to help incorporate Lean practices. For example, a Kanban approach to supply management is rolling out in several locations, with plans extend in sites across the country. Corporate supply chain leadership notes there is now better integration throughout the organization. “We rely on Envi’s reporting capabilities for better visibility and oversight throughout our organization,” said Arthur. “Plus the support we’ve received from the IOS team has absolutely helped us achieve best practice level processes.”
“Ultimately, IOS and the Envi system gives our team peace of mind,” Arthur concluded. “Locations have what they need, where they need it, when they need it. We make the best purchasing decisions possible and deliver on our mission of delivering affordable care to all.”
IOS works with more than 5,000 healthcare facilities throughout the United States. As a result of this large footprint and broad range of users, IOS is able to identify, document and share best practices that are designed to help healthcare organizations improve their supply chain processes and overall results.
“One Medical is a great example of how an organization can leverage technology to create consistent, best practice-based processes on a national scale,” said Steve Britt, President, IOS. “The supply chain team at One Medical is committed to continuous improvement, and we’ve seen that demonstrated throughout their use of the Envi solution. Their consistent focus on streamlining supply chain processes is an example to all provider organizations, especially those providing care over geographically diverse areas. At IOS, we’re committed to sharing best practices across our customer base, to help organizations achieve supply chain excellence. One Medical is a great example of using supply chain to advance an organization and deliver the highest quality, most cost-effective patient care.”
